FROCKTOBER Fashions Meet Literacy Support for Kids
✨WELCOME TO FROCKTOBER✨The month has arrived, my friends. For the fifth time, I am participating in #FROCKTOBER, an initiative that calls attention to a charity of choice by posting an outfit a day for the month of October. I’m always up for a good challenge, and this year, I’ve decided to blend my love of fashion with my love of books, writing, and reading..As an author, professor, and blogger, I love how creativity comes to us in many different ways, and I think combining FICTION & FASHION is a fun way to spend October! 😘 So, not only will I be sharing my fashion, but I’ll also be sharing and…

Frocktober begins tomorrow & I’ve picked my charity
FROCKTOBER BEGINS TOMORROW… And I’m announcing the charity I have chosen for the next 31 days. What is FROCKTOBER? It’s a 31-day fashion challenge, whereby you post an outfit a day on Instagram, that calls attention to a charity of choice! As an educator, author, blogger, and reader, I am so happy to support and call attention to another woman of style’s organization that fosters reading: Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Dolly’s nonprofit organization is a book gifting program that delivers free books to children from birth to age 5 in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Republic of Ireland. The organization was inspired by Dolly’s father’s inability to…

Fashion Friday
It’s been quite a long time since I’ve shared some of my fashion photos. For fun, I like to share some of my outfits on Instagram, and I do have a passion for fashion. I’ve always loved clothes and dressing to suit either my mood or my personality. And I often wear black, which started to get on my nerves, but then I searched Jennifer Aniston on Pinterest and realized that she also embraces her love of the color black. And writers—we writers just love to wear the color black. So, I just gave up on trying to become more colorful with my garments…and will continue to strive to be…

Creating a Capsule Wardrobe To Simplify and Change Your Life
Okay, ladies…I think I’ve finally had the epiphany I’ve been waiting for. I am ready to streamline and downsize my work wardrobe. Who wants to do the same? Those pictures of me above are from three years ago when I attempted this endeavor the first time, but then fell off the wagon. I’m ready to try again. In an effort to include more classic pieces that are versatile and can mix and match, I am ready to invest in this project—both time and some money. As a professor at a university who teaches business communication, and as someone who is in her fifties but still yearns to be stylish, I…

Fashion Friday: Summer Maxi Dresses & A Versatile Duster
* What is STYLE? 👠 How do you define the word? Here’s my take, for what it’s worth. Style isn’t about what you wear, it’s about how you feel about what you wear. Style also isn’t about labels and expensive clothes: you can look good in inexpensive clothes if you learn what cuts work best on your figure and body type. Sometimes I try something that’s really trendy because it looks so great on someone who is tall and thin, but on me, someone who is short and curvy, it just looks silly. I still like to look contemporary, but I know what’s within my zone. Occasionally, I do try…

Fashion Friday, Week 1
Let me preface this with this statement: I just like fashion; fashion should be fun. Ever since I was little, I’ve always loved clothes. The semester has begun, and I think I’m going to attempt the challenge of a “no repeat” semester. Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t wear the same thing, it just means that if you do wear the same thing, you can’t wear it in the exact same way. Accessories, shoes, variations must come into play. I’m gonna give it a whirl. In my previous life as a fashion consultant, one of the things I preached was that you weren’t allowed to buy something unless you could…

Fiction & Fashion.
I’ll keep this brief. FASHION A few years ago a former student of mine challenged me to do a “no repeat” fashion challenge whereby you couldn’t repeat the exact same outfit during the semester on campus. That means, Monday through Friday, each day it has to be different…it cannot be the EXACT same. I kind of laughed at this because, well, really? But now, I’m thinking about it. I love dumb challenges. I love fashion. So, I’m in consideration mode. I’m making no commitment yet, but I’m mulling it over, especially since I’ve done the 31 days of FROCKTOBER to raise awareness for ovarian cancer, so how hard could this…

A Little Fashion Friday
Next week, it’s back to campus, and back to being a little more professionally dressed than wearing leggings and jeans every day. It’s been a comfortable month, but I am always excited to see my students’ faces and be back in the classroom with them–and to have a reason to wear some of my new things to school. I’m hoping to post more fashion this year here on Steph’s Scribe besides just what I do for FROCKTOBER in October…I just love it. It’s my little thing I do for fun. I’ll be sharing my wardrobe on Fridays on Instagram (stephanie.verni), and I’ll post here, too, although sometimes I like to…

FROCKTOBER – WEEK 4 And Some Words of Wisdom to Be Kind to Yourself
As FROCKTOBER comes to a close this week, I’m hoping 3 things come from it: 1-That I helped raise some money and awareness for ovarian cancer research; 2-That my Instagram photos–as stressful as they were for me to pick outfits and to take sometimes–didn’t bore you too much, and, 3-That you take away that you can feel beautiful no matter your shape or size. Over the last several months, I have been battling hip and back pain, which has prevented me from exercising like I used to. It’s frustrating & maddening and I am carrying around some extra weight that I desperately want to get rid of. I’ve started doing…

FROCKTOBER Fashion- Week 3 Recap
For the better part of this week, I was sick with a bad head cold, and yet, I made it to all of my classes and meetings. I don’t like to disappoint my students and will show up unless I have a fever or have flu-like symptoms. That’s my game plan. It was a busy week with Stevenson University’s Homecoming and meetings with fellow faculty and students. We had a lot going on! These were the looks from the week. I also snuck in a girls night out with my friend Elizabeth to see the imomsohard tour at MGM National Harbor on Friday night. We laughed until we cried. Honestly,…

FROCKTOBER Week 2 for Ovarian Cancer
I’ve been hit with a pretty miserable cold this week, but I powered through, so I didn’t get to post last week’s outfits on Sunday. I’m coming out of the illness now–the change of season always gets to me–and I’m sharing what I wore for Week 2 of Frocktober. Thank you to those of you who have donated to Ovarian Cancer. These brave women need our support, and that’s what FROCKTOBER is all about–to help raise awareness of this disease. You can still help by clicking here and making a donation of any size. THANK YOU. Here’s what I wore last week. I hit the mid-point of my 31-days of…

Week One Recap: FROCKTOBER 2018
WELCOME TO FROCKTOBER FOR OVARIAN CANCER This month is all about fashion–but it’s also to raise money and heighten awareness of Ovarian Cancer. As my beloved colleague and friend, Chris Noya, fights her battle, I will do my part to make this month meaningful. I’m looking forward to the challenge of posting 31 outfits in honor of Chris and women everywhere who are battling this disease. My love to you all as you bravely carry on. We are with you. ❤️ FROCKTOBER | Day 1 “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some…
