  • Week One Recap: FROCKTOBER 2018

    October 7, 2018 /

WELCOME TO FROCKTOBER FOR OVARIAN CANCER This month is all about fashion–but it’s also to raise money and heighten awareness of Ovarian Cancer. As my beloved colleague and friend, Chris Noya, fights her battle, I will do my part to make this month meaningful. I’m looking forward to the challenge of posting 31 outfits in honor of Chris and women everywhere who are battling this disease. My love to you all as you bravely carry on. We are with you. ❤️ FROCKTOBER | Day 1 “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some…

It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson This month is all about fashion–but it’s also to raise $ and heighten awareness of Ovarian Cancer. • What the Frock? I’ll Tell You What I’m Frocking Up To This Month.

    September 30, 2018 /

Welcome, October. I’m very excited to see you again. You are one of my favorite months of the year. First, because autumn is my favorite season, and second because we get to mix a love of fashion with building awareness for Ovarian Cancer, an ailment my colleague and friend, Chris Noya, continues to fight and beat. So, Welcome, Frocktober. During the month of October, I’m joining other bloggers in promoting fundraising for this disease, as well as posting one outfit a day for 31 days of fashion. I’ve done it for the past two years, and I’ll do it again. Ovarian cancer is a scary thing. All cancers are. A…

  • Gearing Up for #Frocktober and #NaNoWriMo

    September 24, 2018 /

October = #Frocktober November = #NaNoWriMo As this will be the third year Steph’s Scribe has participated in #Frocktober, and the second year we’re partnering with the Stevenson University Library to present #NaNoWriMo, we’ve got a lot of planning and work ahead of us. There are outfits to pick out and novels to work on. But isn’t that what makes life fun? Having projects to immerse ourselves into each year? Fall is absolutely my favorite season…and these two months are exciting. My husband and I married on November 1 in a barn in the fall season. Despite that the weather was much like it is today in Maryland – drizzly…

  • Friday Fashion: The Commitment to Add More Color to My Wardrobe

    September 14, 2018 /

*** Writers wear black. Lots of it. It’s kind of funny, actually, that as a lot, we’ve sort of taken this color and decided to claim it as our own. I’m not sure how this got started, perhaps because as a group we’re sort of identified as a deep-thinking with a dark side. But I don’t necessarily subscribe to that label, as some labels just simply aren’t true. Some of us are happy writers. Happy writers who wear a lot of black. So my mission this semester on campus as a professor is to liven up my wardrobe. Does this mean I will never wear black or combinations of it…

  • Wednesday Wardrobe – The Petite Professor: Rompers & Jumpsuits

    May 16, 2018 /

*** Jumpers and Rompers are HOT this year. Why? Because… They are easy and breezy. They are one piece, and a one-piece item (same color top and bottom) does not break the visual line of clothing, therefore making you look taller and often more slender. They are comfortable. They can be dressed up or down. They are a great alternative to a skirt, dress, or pants. They look elegant without trying very hard. If you haven’t tried one yet, you may want to do so. You can find them everywhere, from Marshall’s to Anthropologie and Banana Republic (pictured below). You can spend very little or spend a fortune. The two…

    April 18, 2018 /

I’m getting spring fever, you guys. I want to wear pretty things that feel like summertime. I’m ready to be in flip flops, flouncy dresses, big hats, and sunglasses. So today, I’m featuring a dress from Express that I got at a consignment store–in perfect condition. There’s a lot to be said for quality consignment stores. I pop into our local shop a couple of times a month just to see what great finds may be waiting just for me. I shop everywhere, though. Nordstrom. Ann Taylor Loft. Kohl’s. Target. Macy’s. Boden. Sundance. I’m all over the place, because I like to try different things. So here’s one of two…

    October 2, 2017 /

It’s kind of difficult to get happy today with the news coming out of Las Vegas. I’m so saddened by the reports of all the victims of the mass shooting and those who are injured. Prayers go to all of those who have been affected by this horrible, senseless, and heinous tragedy. However, FROCKTOBER must carry on, because we are doing some good here by raising awareness for ovarian cancer. As I mentioned yesterday, my colleague and stylish lady friend, Chris Noya, has been battling this disease since January. If you wish to donate, you can do so by giving to the American Cancer Society or to the National Ovarian…

    September 8, 2017 /

    * If you follow me on Instagram, you know I post a lot of pics of me in my work and casual clothes, the bargains and designer stuff, as well as the cheaper fashions simply because I have a #loveoffashion and am a #fashionenthusiast. (I use those hashtags all the time when posting on Instagram.) While my side job of being an independent author drives me, and I spend a lot of time writing and promoting books, I do consider it a second JOB. However, my love of fashion is just a side PASSION and HOBBY. I do it for enjoyment and amusement, for me, and I like to share…

    August 31, 2017 /

*** I won’t deny that I get pretty excited talking about my passions. And you should, too. So much of what we do on a daily basis are chores and errands and monotonous stuff we have to do to live a good life, like pay bills, clean the garage, make dinner every night, organize the office, or serve as a carpool driver, just to name a few. Yes, we do these things. We have to do them. They are called responsibilities. We can’t ignore our responsibilities, but we also can’t ignore our passions. Recently, a friend of mine asked me how I do it. She said, “I don’t understand how…

  • Sunday Casual Brunch | What I Wore

    August 13, 2017 /

Time for a little fashion on the blog… Sometimes going out to brunch can be a very formal occasion. Other times, it’s a casual affair. When sitting by the water having Sunday coffee and a scrumptious meal, an outfit like this is just perfect. There’s no need to overdress; white pants and a cute top, a little bag, some gold hoops, and some sunnies are all you need. Love the detail on the top. Stephanie Stephanie Verni is Professor of Business Communication at Stevenson University and is the author of Inn Significant, Baseball Girl, and Beneath the Mimosa Tree. Along with her colleagues Leeanne Bell McManus and Chip Rouse, she…

  • 4 Pieces to Build a Modern Audrey Hepburn Look

    August 4, 2017 /

Looking to update your wardrobe and create that classic look that lasts? Buy some pieces that have the ability to enhance your wardrobe and extend it. Start with these four pieces, and you’re on your way to creating a wardrobe that can expand easily. By adding solid pants and skirts, a simple LBD, solid colored tops, sweaters, and a variety of shoes, you’ll use this suggestion as your starting point and go from there. Starting with some basics will inspire you to look for more pieces that can go beyond just one season. Here are my picks for starting that Audrey Hepburn-inspired wardrobe for our times.
