Are You in the Shallow End or Deep End with Your Summer Reading?

* * * * * *

Come on, be honest. What the heck is on your reading list this summer? Will you finally get around to reading “Fifty Shades of Grey” on your Kindle or will you be attacking a Dickens classic? Are you wading in the shallow end with the updated version of “Kardashian Konfidential” or knee deep in “Unbroken” or a novel with some philosophical insights?

What is your beach read this summer?

Let us know. We want to hear what you’re recommending…unless, of course, you’re too embarrassed to share…  😉

    My bookclub read A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams for June and we will read Me Before You by Jo Jo Moyes for July and then for the co-ed book club we will read The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.

    I’m re-reading some of the classics…so far, I’ve read Shakespeare’s HAMLET, Austen’s MANSFIELD PARK, and Mitchner’s CHESAPEAKE. I just started (current best seller) Alice La Plante’s A CIRCLE OF WIVES. I’m breathlessly awaiting the newest work by Stephanie Parrillo Verni–BASEBALL GIRL!
    As always– so many books, so little time.

    I am currently reading Shotgun Lovesongs by Nicholas Butler. It is a story of small town friends in Wisconsin and how they interact and change through the years. It is well written with beautiful imagery of small town and farm life. The characters are believable and interact in interesting ways. There is a clash of lifestyles with one of the characters who makes it big as a rock star and keeps returning to his roots (apparently the author is friends in real life with a rock star of some sorts). I grew up in a small town so a lot of the story resonated with me. I would say this book is right in the middle of the deep and shallow ends. I tend to stay in the shallow end in the summer so I don’t have to concentrate too much.

    From the title, I was expecting something else. haha Just goes to show, I’m too focused on my lists. I have no plans for reading at the moment. But I do feel like I’m getting ready to jump in the deep end of my summer with all the things I’m trying to accomplish this summer in order to leave Taiwan by next summer. I guess I’ll have to leave the vicarious reading to others just this one summer. 🙂

    At the moment, I am reading Deborah Johnson’s “The Air Between Us.” Also on my list is David Halberstam’s “Firehouse,” Angela Pneuman’s “Lay It on My Heart,” and Brene Brown’s “Daring Greatly.”
