• To Blink = Change

This getting older thing causes a lot of nostalgia. It really does. I’m not sure where it comes from sometimes, but it seems to creep into my life daily. The years are marked by “big moments,” and some of them come barreling along, and some sneak in quietly. Lately, it seems every time I turn around, something is changing. First, my son got his driver’s permit. It’s exciting, but it’s one of those aspects of your life that makes you say, “I remember just yesterday he was dancing to the Wiggles.” Jeez. He’s months away from driving and two years away from college. How did we get here so fast?…

  • Change

It’s been a while since Steph’s Scribe was updated. Over the past few days I decided it was time for a fresh look. As I’ve positioned Steph’s Scribe as more of a lifestyle blog, I wanted a magazine-type layout to reflect the change. Additionally, all of my contact information can be found in the main menu in “About Me” or at the very bottom of the blog if you scroll down. The menu at the top also houses information about my novels and is organized by category so you can find information on some of my favorite topics such as creativity, inspiration, fashion, writing, and more. Sometimes we need a…

  • On the Fear of Change & Valentine’s Cards

When I put a call out to blog readers about what they wanted to see me write about this week, I received two good directions: blog about change and blog about Valentine’s cards. When I weighed the options, I liked them both, and since I’m heading out of town this weekend for a getaway with my girlfriends, I decided to write about both because, well, I aim to make everyone happy. The idea of change can create fear, and in some cases, an extremely real phobia called metathesiophobia; the word is derived from the Greeks and is a combination of the word “meta” which means “moving” and the word “phobos”…

  • Morning Thoughts

Morning Thoughts In the quiet of the morning Yet not so quiet— The hum of 100 always awake— I sit and realize all is about to change.   With change, comes good: Good for the soul; Good for the mind; Good for us all.   To leave behind some ills Some love and wonderment and memories, Yet forge ahead to tomorrow. The dawn of a new day.   Moving forward, yet going home. Finding a place to just Be.

  • Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast?

The White Queen in Alice in Wonderland said, “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” What impossible things do we all believe in? Here are six I’ve chosen to share . . . 1—I believe in ghosts. In some form or another, I do believe they exist, and they are here not to harm, but to educate. 2—People can move objects with their minds. If you don’t believe it’s possible, see this clip from “60 Minutes.” http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162-57559641/paralyzed-woman-controls-robotic-arm-with-her-mind/ 3—Witches do exist. 4—You are capable of changing. There just needs to be a desire to do so. 5—The Orioles can make it to the World Series, quite…

  • …And Then There’s A Rainbow…

It hasn’t been a particularly good 2013 so far. There’s been a lot going on in my life personally, and it’s been tough so far. I’m working through it, but you know, life ain’t always easy. So yesterday, after I blogged about my wicked tornado nightmares as part of the daily prompt that WordPress offers, I ran some errands after work, and as I was pulling into my street, there it was. A rainbow. It was such a fitting way to end the day…after referencing “The Wizard of Oz” and talking about nightmares, and after dealing with the chaos that has been my life for the last few months, a…

  • Change

Today, my husband started a new job. I’m sure he’s going to be quite happy and successful in his new position with his new company. Change isn’t always simple; there are always those butterflies that get us as the change comes to pass. I remember my first full-time day on the job as a full-time professor. I had a ton of nervous and excited energy dwelling within me. Going back to work full-time after staying home with my kids when they were little was a big change for me. But, as my kids were in school full-time, I became bored at home; it was time for me to get back…
