Saying Some ‘Thank Yous’ This Thanksgiving Season: A Reflection
Thoughts and a Reflection on Thanksgiving In my humble opinion, the best four days of the year have just passed. The four days of Thanksgiving weekend are always my favorite time of the year. We are permitted to just stop and reflect for a few days, spend time with family, and in our home, begin the Christmas traditions we set forth when the kids were babies of cutting down our Christmas tree and decorating for the holidays. For the last several years, I’ve cooked the Thanksgiving dinner, with sides provided by my mother and mother-in-law. This year, the pumpkin pie and apple crumb pie were ordered from Kirsten’s Cakery by…

Inn Significant Named Finalist in National Indie Excellence Awards
*** It’s what every writer dreams of — a little recognition for the work you slaved over for a year and a half. Just a little nod to let you know your work was not done in vain. As I have chosen my own path of writing and publishing as an independent author, whereby I do all the work on the book myself—from writing it to editing it to designing the cover and laying it out for print and for digital media to uploading it and publishing it via my hub Mimosa Publishing—being a finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards really means something to me. I am so grateful…

A Word of Love—And Thanks—This Valentine’s Day
*** Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my faithful followers and supporters! I wanted to just take a moment to thank you for being loyal, checking in periodically, and indulging me in my silly, sentimental, and inspirational writing posts. I love writing and sharing things with you, and I am incredibly excited to publish my third work of fiction in a matter of days. Inn Significant will be out NEXT WEEK, and I’ll be posting updates throughout the weekend of exactly when it will become available. I know I couldn’t and wouldn’t be a writer if it weren’t for all of you encouraging me to continue down the path of pursing…

All the Best This Holiday Season
I wish I had more time to write a meaningful post, but it’s midnight, and I’m just posting this among all the other chaos that can often become a part of the holidays. I’ve baked my butt off today and wrapped gits, cleaned bathrooms and the kitchen, fixed the lights that went out around my front door and rearranged the fireplace mantle, and our family watched It’s a Wonderful Life before we all started nodding off a couple of hours ago. I’m awake now and everyone else is sleeping. I’m finishing some odds and ends–and I bet so many of you are doing the same. That said, before things become…

Happy 99 Cent Anniversary!
Good morning, friends! Today marks the two-year anniversary of the publication of “Beneath the Mimosa Tree.” I know, I know…this is OLD news. Yes, that may be true. But for me, it never will be old news. I won’t ever forget the way may hand shook as I hit the “publish” button and sent it off to Kindle. It was 5 o’clock in the afternoon, and off it went for Kindle to review my files for publication. At approximately 11 p.m., I received an email from Amazon saying, “Congratulations! Your book is now available for download.” I was the book’s first customer. I downloaded it immediately to my Kindle because…

Everyone Deserves A Best Moment
I would like to thank Deborah at The Container Chronicals (http://myriad234.wordpress.com/) for bestowing this lovely blogger award upon Steph’s Scribe! I am very happy to accept. And now, as these awards go, I must disclose seven things about myself, and then pass along nominations. It’s a “Pay-It-Forward” kind of thing, and it allows us to share with our readers bloggers that we enjoy reading and following. Thanks again, Deborah. Seven Random Things About Myself I have a cameo appearance in the film “Major League II.” The movie was filmed at Camden Yards in Baltimore when I worked for the Orioles. My father has a cameo in James Bond’s “Goldfinger”…

Thank You Time
My friend, Amy Nelson, got me feeling sentimental this morning with her post about nostalgic songs…So…This is a long overdue thank you to those of you who’ve helped, followed, and supported all my crazy endeavors over the last couple of years. Thanks to you, we’ve reached over 3,000 followers of the blog, and have received over 67,000 hits on The Scribe in addition to almost 39,000 hits on my dear friends’ international magazine website at Paperblog. I’ve met some cool people through blogging and launching an independent novel, and I’m very thankful. The folks at Readers’ Favorite have been fantastic, and the awards ceremony last fall was a blast. And…

BIG NEWS!!! BENEATH THE MIMOSA TREE Earns Medal in Annual Readers Favorite Contest
* * * Readers Favorite announced today its selection of winners in its annual Readers Favorite Contest. I am happy (very happy, in fact!) to report that BENEATH THE MIMOSA TREE earned a Bronze Medal, which, believe it or not, appears to be tops in its category. It’s based on a points scoring system, so you have to understand the official way the contest is judged, which is as follows according to the Readers Favorite website: “We offer up to 4 award levels in each category: Gold, Silver, Bronze, Honorable, as well as a Finalist level. You will notice that not all levels are awarded in each category, despite the…

It’s Not Pinterest, But It’s My Pin Board
* * * Dear Readers, Today I spent the morning cleaning my office at home. I’ve been trying to write a short story, and it’s tough to be inspired in a cluttered mess. The disaster in the office is the result of a busy and rewarding semester, in addition to the chaos of getting my book published and promoting it. I had little time to organize it, and the piles just built up. Trust me: it really, really, really needed to be dissected. This resulted in some great finds; I took some time to reflect on the lovely cards and well-wishes people have sent me over the last few months…
