Fictography #9 — Susie’s & Katie’s Snowwoman
/FICTOGRAPHY/ def. — The intersection of photography (submitted by readers) and fiction (written by me!). This week’s selected photograph comes from a friend of mine, Kathy Binder. Kathy and I have known each other for years, and last year I visited Kathy’s book club and got to know her and her friends even better. What I love most about Kathy is that she has terrific taste. She and I are on Pinterest together, and are constantly pinning each other’s pins. Her photograph depicts the snow we’ve had this year, but I took it in a direction of two young friends, one with a disability. I hope you enjoy this one. Good…

Weekly Photo Challenge: HOME
In this week’s photo challenge, we had to select a photograph that in some way means “Home.” I selected this photograph—one I took over the summer—of the beach in Ulmstead, where I grew up and where my parents still live. I got a new camera last year, and I went out one day and practiced taking all sorts of photos. This playset is one that has been around since I was little, as you can see by its aged look. Weekly Photo Challenge: Unique
I decided to participate again this week in the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge. The word we had to “show” through photography was “unique.” This week’s photo is one I took last May when my husband and I vacationed at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida. We took a guided bike tour along North Lake Trail, which brought us to Henry Flagler’s House and into some neighborhoods, and then along the beach and back to The Breakers. These flowers were so unique, I had to stop and admire their beauty. I’m not even sure if this photograph does them justice.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, I Don’t Look Like That At All!!!
I’m trying to figure out which photograph I want to use on the back of my paperback book cover. It’s one of those last minute decisions I neglected to make earlier in the process of being an independent author. Nevertheless, I asked my daughter to take a few shots with my new Nikon. We were testing backgrounds. When I saw the photo of myself, I stared. Do I really look like that? I must have a trick mirror at home, because when I look at myself in it, I still see a 30-year-old, not the more mature me that I’ve become. I’m already dreading my upcoming birthday, though we won’t…

Nostalgia
Have you ever experienced one of those freaky moments where you ransack the bins you have in storage, the ones that house collections from your previous life, with previous friends and lovers, looking to see what you considered worthy of saving? There’s the high school box, the college box, the “when I was a small child” box, the wedding box, the “I had my first kid box,” all jammed into a room that houses items you know desperately need to be dissected, tossed, or burned. (Incidentally, the poor second child and any who come after that are lucky if they even get a box). Nevertheless, the room smells of nostalgia–the…
