A Little Fashion Friday
Next week, it’s back to campus, and back to being a little more professionally dressed than wearing leggings and jeans every day. It’s been a comfortable month, but I am always excited to see my students’ faces and be back in the classroom with them–and to have a reason to wear some of my new things to school. I’m hoping to post more fashion this year here on Steph’s Scribe besides just what I do for FROCKTOBER in October…I just love it. It’s my little thing I do for fun. I’ll be sharing my wardrobe on Fridays on Instagram (stephanie.verni), and I’ll post here, too, although sometimes I like to…

Friday Fashion: The Commitment to Add More Color to My Wardrobe
*** Writers wear black. Lots of it. It’s kind of funny, actually, that as a lot, we’ve sort of taken this color and decided to claim it as our own. I’m not sure how this got started, perhaps because as a group we’re sort of identified as a deep-thinking with a dark side. But I don’t necessarily subscribe to that label, as some labels just simply aren’t true. Some of us are happy writers. Happy writers who wear a lot of black. So my mission this semester on campus as a professor is to liven up my wardrobe. Does this mean I will never wear black or combinations of it…

My Husband’s Other Favorite Christmas Cookie
So in reverse order today, I’ll be showcasing a recipe first, and then a stylish fashion look. * * * We had a good laugh about it last night. My husband found it hilarious that I was blogging about his favorite Christmas cookie. But, of course, in typical fashion, he second-guessed me. “Are you sure that’s my favorite cookie?” he asked. “Yes. You * love them,” I said. (Note: the * stands for an expletive I used before the word love.) “But there are also those mint chocolate chips…they are to die for too,” he said. “So, are you going to be taking over my blog? We could rename it…

Friday Fashion and Food: Week One
To add some variety to the blog, Steph’s Scribe is adding a feature on Fridays called “Friday Fashion and Food,” where I’ll showcase one favorite fashion look and one recipe. As some of you know, I was a fashion stylist for a few years, and have always loved clothes and shoes (especially boots) and fashion in general. Additionally, in terms of food, I am an expert eater. Therefore, why not blend the two into a feature with alliteration as its title just for fun? Fashion Look: The look for today is “urban prettiness.” I’m drooling over the skirt, the romantic blouse, and her hair that is gorgeous and makes me…

10 Pieces Yield 36 Outfits…Suggestions for Building Your Wardrobe for Fashion Friday.
One of the things I can pass along as a former fashion consultant is the importance of having the pieces that you purchase mix and match with each other. The easiest way to begin this process is to start with solid colors, then gradually add in patterns and floral prints. By starting with solid colors, you have the ability for the items to be interchangeable. Women who need to dress for the workplace, this is especially helpful for you. By only buying pieces that you know will go with what you already have in your closet, you extend your wardrobe. Those of you who want to start from scratch and…

Fashion Friday: WWAD (What Would Audrey Do?)
Glitter. Have you noticed it? It’s ominpresent right now. Everywhere you look, there’s glitter. Glitter on the face, glitter on the nails, glitter on shoes and purses, on belts and jeans. Glitter is in. Jump on the bandwagon, ladies, if you want to be trendy. Or not. When you get ready to dive into the latest craze–zebra prints, skinny jeans, string bikinis, platform shoes, or feathers attached to your hair or worn as earrings–stop and pause. Ask yourself: What Would Audrey Do? Yes, that’s right, Audrey Hepburn. She may no longer be with us, but her style lessons will last forever. Now, before you get excited, hear me clearly: I’m…
