  • Books. Book Talks. Bookshelves.

    January 19, 2020 /

I’m looking forward to this on Tuesday and to helping budding writers in any way that I can. I’ll have copies of my books for sale and tips for writers. Thanks to the Severna Park Library for inviting me to come! Additionally, I have been inspired by so many folks on Instagram who post photos of their lovely bookshelves. I cleaned up mine in the office early this morning, and am posting the outcome. I still want to do more organization by color, and I have more bookshelves in another room that I can combine with these. But it’s a start. Have a great Sunday, everyone. Enjoy the rest of…

  • Excited for an upcoming book talk in January…and how reading benefits us

    December 7, 2019 /

I’m looking forward to being at the Severna Park Library in January on the 21st at 7 p.m. They are always so gracious to invite me whenever I release a new book (and there are three copies of Little Milestones in circulation there). Also, I have books on hand for $10 each (plus postage, if I have to mail) if you would like a copy for the holidays…simply message me at stephanie.verni@gmail.com and I’ll take care of it for you. Finally, a PSA: Be sure to support your local libraries and bookstores and keep kids reading! As a professor who teaches writing, I’m passionate about the ways reading positively affects…

  • Launching Little Milestones AND NaNoWriMo in one Evening on Campus

    October 26, 2019 /

It’s been an unbelievably busy and exciting week! Launching LITTLE MILESTONES has been a thrill! I am so happy it’s available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and I’m doubly thrilled to be launching #NaNoWriMo this Tuesday on campus. It’s our third year of promoting writing on campus and getting students thinking about writing their own stories, be it fiction, nonfiction, or memoir. Students can also think about creating their stories on Wattpad or via a blog. When I was the age of my students, I would sit in class and dream of publishing something one day. At that time, you had to find an agent or publisher, or you…

  • Campus Book Talk Tonight and Some Monday Inspiration

    April 18, 2016 /

I’m excited to talk to students tonight about the self-publishing world. Faculty in the Halls, a program at Stevenson University, has asked me to speak to students about the path of publishing your own book. As I’ve published two novels this way, I’m excited to share my knowledge of the growing arm of publishing, how you can make this work for you, and the pros and cons of doing it on your own. I’ll be talking about both Beneath the Mimosa Tree and Baseball Girl, and I hope to inspire some folks to give it a whirl. It’s by no means easy, but it is something that, given enough drive…

  • Talking “Broccoli” at My First Book Talk & Signing

    April 17, 2012 /

To say I enjoyed every moment of my first book talk and signing last night would be an understatement. I am pretty certain I could make that a habit. It doesn’t get much better than that—talking about writing, reading, books, and broccoli while eating cannolis and biscotti and drinking a good cup of coffee amongst friends. My lovely colleagues in Business Communication at Stevenson University, Chip Rouse, Leeanne Bell, and Deric Greene, hosted my event (we missed our dear colleague Heather Harris who is on sabbatical). I got choked up listening to the kind words Chip said as she introduced me. It was incredibly heartwarming. And then, when I got…
