    October 18, 2022 /

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE SHOW AND HAVEN’T WATCHED EPISODE 9 – I DON’T WANT TO SPOIL IT FOR YOU Princess Rhaenys is the heroine of Episode 9, but did she make a mistake? After being locked in her room while the Queen’s advisors secretly plot to have Aegon sit on the throne, throwing away the wishes of King Vicerys to have his daughter, Rhaenyra, named Queen and sit on the Iron Throne, Princess Rhaenys ascends her dragon and scares the living daylights of everyone during the coronation. • My Favorite Villain

    March 25, 2022 /

The other day in class, one of my students told me that he decided to re-watch Game of Thrones. We’ve talked about this show before in class. He then told me which characters he would like to play in the show, if he ever had the opportunity. Of course, he picked some of the good guys. He almost fell out of his chair when I told him that I would want to play Cersei Lannister. “She’s my favorite character on the show.” “You’re kidding! She’s so bad!” he exclaimed, wide-eyed and surprised. “I know. Wouldn’t it be fun to play someone like that? She’s just so darn rotten.” And she…

  • 10 Random Thoughts for the First Friday of the New Year

    January 3, 2020 /

Hello, there, readers. I haven’t seen you since last year, and you’re looking well! I hope the New Year is good to you. It seems that 2020 has a lot in store for us all… I thought I’d start off today with some random thoughts that I’ve had over the last couple of weeks to both get them off my mind and also keep this blog post moving along, so here we go… 1-My husband and I watched the film, Yesterday, the other night. I think it’s one of the more clever films of 2019. Fun, different, and creative, whether you like the Beatles or not, you’ll enjoy this tale…

  • Answering Questions & An Overview (and some hair-dos, lol)

    July 18, 2019 /

Hi Readers! I figured I haven’t done a quick introduction and overview for some new connections here, so here it goes! I’m also sharing some throw back photos of the books I’ve published (and my many hair-dos since!) 1—Why am I holding The Postcard in the first photo? This week marks the one-year anniversary of publishing my collection of short stories that has gotten some buzz lately: a 5-star review from Readers’ Favorite and a finalist award in National Indie Excellence. So thrilled for both! 2—When did I start blogging? Back in 2011 with the support of some of my students, namely Bill Ritson, who helped me name it Steph’s…

  • When Things End

    May 21, 2019 /

Another semester is in the books, as our university will host graduation ceremonies this Thursday. My grades are just about closed out, and the sun is shining outside, marking the beginning of summer for those of us professors in higher education. I love teaching and being in the classroom—for me, it’s all about that. Waking up in the morning knowing I will see the faces of my students is all I need to get me going in the morning. I’m passionate about my job and about working with students. However, I do look forward to summer, and I’m passionate about writing as well. When people ask me when I have…

  • I Was “One of Those” People

    May 1, 2019 /

*** The past three Mondays when I’ve walked into class, I’ve been greeted with wide-eyes and inquisitive looks on the faces of my students that suggest…WELL???? WHAT DID YOU THINK???? I’d like to tell you that my darling students are eager to discuss public relations writing, but at 9 a.m. when I walk into the classroom, what they want to discuss for the first few minutes is Game of Thrones. And so we do. You see, up until January, I was one of those people who for years said she didn’t watch Game of Thrones, that it wasn’t my cup of tea. My husband and I tried the show a…

  • Totally Slacking Off

    April 24, 2019 /

I admit it. When I’m not working and am at home, I’ve been doing a lot of slacking off. It hasn’t been because I’ve wanted to, necessarily, although I do believe the “break” has helped my mental state a bit. But let me explain. Last month, I was sent to the emergency room at the hospital with a wicked back issue. I’d never felt pain like that in my life. I’d pulled it several times before (after having children, mind you), but nothing like that—ever. So, you see my dear readers, I’ve been in a bit of “recovery mode” after being diagnosed with a herniated disc and because said disc…

  • Late to the Game of Thrones Party, #writerssupportingwriters & Elizabeth Sagan

    March 31, 2019 /

LATE TO THE GAME OF THRONES PARTY Yes, I know. This show has been around for a while. And I have to admit to having tried the show two or three years ago and not being in the mood for it after watching the first episode. Sometimes you just have to be in the right frame of mind or in the mood for something fantasy/medieval-based in order to become hooked. So, at the urging of a former student I trust and friends whose taste in television we regard well, my husband and I decided to give it another go. I’m so thankful we did. This series has been perfect for…
