  • Nobody Has Ever Loved Me As Much As I Loved Him—Friday Fiction

    March 4, 2016 /

NOBODY HAS EVER LOVED ME AS MUCH AS I HAVE LOVED HIM The light grows dim. I have been sitting in the dark for nearly four hours with only a flickering candle on the table. The storm has quelled a bit, but the winds rattled the house until midnight, the trees and bushes bending as the snow accumulated and the winds whistled. It’s four in the morning now, and I realize I’ve been sitting in this chair in the kitchen motionless practically all night long. There is an eerie stillness inside the house that mirrors the uncomfortable quiet of nature outside—serene and undisturbed . Upstairs, he sleeps. He has…

  • After I Was Dead — Friday Fiction

    January 29, 2016 /

I’m taking another crack at Friday Fiction with a ghost story. I decided to push myself and try something entirely new. Writing ghost fiction…that sounds fun. I’ve never written a ghost story before, but I do enjoy reading them. The prompt from Brian Kiteley asks us to do the following: Write a story about a ghost who is bored by the immensities of time and timelessness. Make us sympathetic toward the ghost in a straightforward piece of narration… Here we go… Boo… A F T E R   I   W A S   D E A D The enduring span of lifelessness is enough to drive me mad, as if I wasn’t…

  • Withdrawal and The Staircase

    October 9, 2015 /

Today I decided that I would write a little something. I haven’t written anything creatively in a while, and it’s sort of getting to me. I’m going through withdrawal and I don’t want to go through withdrawal. I want to write something, and while I am far too busy to spend time writing what will be my next novel, I will tackle some short fiction, or what some deem Flash Fiction. Here’s the prompt that I got from the 3 a.m. Epiphany written by Brian Kiteley. It’s my “go to” book of prompts I use when I want to write a little something but need a push. The beauty of…

  • Fiction Friday: Showcasing ‘A Writers Group of Two’s’ Short Fiction

    August 19, 2011 /

We don’t have a name for it, though we often refer to it humorously as A Writers Group Of Two. We like it that way, for now. We push each other to write and set deadlines for accomplishing our tasks. This makes us accountable, and most writers work well on deadlines. When I told the only other member, Amy, that I wanted to showcase her work in this week’s Friday Fiction, she agreed, and so here we are…two of us and two different scenarios. * * * * * * * * The first scenario is from my friend Amy Nelson. Her task was as follows: IMPERATIVE: Write a fragment…

  • In Honor of the Royal Wedding

    April 29, 2011 /

Today, a post went around on Facebook that said the following: In honor of the Royal Wedding on Friday, use your royal name. Start with either Lord or Lady. Your first name is one of your grandparents’ names. Your surname is the name of your first pet, double-barreled with the name of the street on which you grew up. Post yours here. Then cut/paste into your status. Four of my Facebook friends and I did it, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the names. They were as follows: Lord Clarence Henry of Devonshire (Scott) Lady Helen Lizzie of Old York (Currie) Lady Catherine Rebecca of Howard (Christin) Lady Gwendolyn…
