Top 10 Things I Recommend You Purge Before You Move

SnoopyMovingIf you’re about to move like I just did, or if you may move in the near future, you may want to consider doing a big, huge, ginormous clear out. Therefore, you have permission to purge the following:

10. … that crystal bowl, vase, or platter you got from Aunt Ethel for your something-eth wedding anniversary; that tie that takes up needless space that you haven’t worn in five years; or candlesticks that look like they belong in a museum rather than in your home.

9. … 20 purses, 50 pairs of shoes, and 30 pairs of boots. Do you really need that much? Also, while you’re at it, remove permanently from your wardrobe any shoes that hurt and clothing you wouldn’t buy in a store RIGHT NOW.

8. … silk scarves that you wore in the 1980s.

7. … a vacuum cleaner and other appliances that weigh in the neighborhood of 25 pounds. Lightweight ones ARE available.

6. … floppy discs. Need I say more?

5. … towels, handtowels, and washcloths that are disgusting, tired, and dated.

4. … stuffed animals, trinkets, and mementos that have absolutely no meaning, nor can you remember where or when you got them.

3. … cleaning supplies that look like they’ve come from the dump instead of looking as if they need to be shipped to the dump.

2. … paint that’s dried up, cakey, and faded. Uh, what’s the point?

1. … and finally, liberate yourself from any and all non-working pieces of machinery, needless or old furniture, broken & disappointing friendships, and scraps of the past.

As Tina Turner once said, “Sometimes you’ve got to let everything go — purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything…whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.”

Now go ahead: toss out some garbage.
